Supi Ami: Chapter 3

by safohen
There weren't many sacred groves left in Cape Coast. The meteoric rise of high rise buildings had seen to that. There were only three of such groves left, reserved for the religious, the weary and eventually the very old.

The largest one was the home of )konore, high priestess of the Southern grove. Ruthless and calculating, she had outlived some of her friends and many of her foes. She stared out on the open plain and snapped her fingers.

An attendant with a shaven head rushed to her side.

'Tell my daughters to intercept Hawa on her way back to the city. There's only one route that leads away from Ankonamkrom and she's on it now.'

'Of course, me wura (my master)'.

'It would have been better to get the chief' she mused 'but taking her Supi was not a bad deal either'.

She went back to her hut and switched on a small portable radio. The report was brief. One thousand priestesses were missing. The commentator quickly went on to another news story about some political happenings in the city.

She turned it off. The disappearances were all she needed to hear. The Tufohen, without the chief to restrain her, had finally shown her true colours. Just as she had expected.
