Over My Dead Body

by Slave Prince

Usually, I would bring my phone with me wherever I go. But this particular Friday night, I was so excited about seeing my favorite band play in a near mall, that I forgot my phone at home. I was so confused to see the street so quiet and dark. But the sight of four beautiful boys singing in front of me took away the doubts clinging in my mind. Thirty minutes of walk on a long straight highway was just a sign of how obsessed I was with boy bands. To give away the twist: there was no concert, my best friend just pulled a prank, and a creepy stalker was following me. I give up the twist because I believe that the true horror is not on the twist but at the moment of helplessness.

When I realized I had forgotten the phone, I was already halfway to the mall, so it was too late to go back to fetch it. I cursed myself. My parents’ going to lock me inside the house for a week if I miss their call. To just move forward, I kept reminding myself about the four beautiful boys I would see at the end of this long walk. When you are a fourteen-year-old girl, your favorite boy band is the best thing the world can offer. This boy band called Zero Math was above my parents and just below God (yes, I mean it). I didn’t mind them having average voices. Whatever. They had the faces of angels.

When I passed the famous flower shop, I stopped and looked around, expecting anyone, just anyone I could talk to as I walk to the concert. But there was no one. So the moment I started walking again and heard a low voice said “Hi”, my body turned cold. It was right behind me.
