Mom is always right!!!

by Omkar Nar
Rahul was a 16 year old boy. And was studying in the last year of his school. As of then his progress in studies was good. He was always among first 10 students of his school. But he never was 1st & that used to hurt him. His parents Rohit and Rohini were alright with his results & never pressurized him.

At the start of 10th standard something happened and Rahul was no more attentive in studies neither at school nor at home. And he continued to stay away from house long time. He got used to returning home at late night and saying parents that he was studying at his friends house. His mom who never ever doubted on him, couldn't trust his answer. The reasons were he never studied with friends in past 9 years and he didnt maintain eye contact with his mom while answering. His mom discussed this behaviour of her son with his dad but was of no use. He said that he may have changed his way of study and ignored it. But Rahul's mom was worried. She was disturbed whole day. As Rahul returned home that night she offered him dinner but he refused it and went to sleep. His worried mom was not able to sleep. She thoght to check his school accessories to confirm wheather he was not doing anything wrong. She just entered silently in his room, he was slept, she went near his study table. She opened his bag and checked all books. Everything was fine. Then she checked his clothes and she was shocked. It was some white powder in a small packet. "Was that drug?" she mermered.

She picked that packet and went in her room. Next morning she sent Rahul school and showed that packet to his dad. It was drug, examined by his dad. Both were silent for next half an hour. And both were thinking where did they go wrong? Was there any mistake by them to nourish their child.

Both took a leave on that day. His dad went to his school to notice where he used to go after. He just followed his son after leaving from school without his notice. Rahul went with few of his classmates to one of their friends (Suresh's) house. It was a bungalow at seaside. His dad also entered in the bungalow through main gate after almost 15-20 minutes. And whatever he saw was very shocking. Those 6 boys of age 16 had drugs. Nobody was able to react to situation. Rohit slapped Rahul and took him at home by an auto.

Three of them were just sitting at the dining table. Rahul with his head down. Rohit and Rohini both curious to know about how the things went on. After crying for next 15 -20 minutes Rahul uttered, his friends suggested him to take a powder consuming which he would no longer read anything twice and he will easily remember the study and will be first in the 10th from school. His friends who also used to get good score in exam they advertised the drug so cleverly that Rahul was driven to taste that. And he got trapped in the drugs. He complained, no sooner he could recognise he was consuming drug he was totally surrendered to it. Rohit and Rohini were tensed.

They called parents of all the 5 boys and told what was happened. All got upset. Few decided to ban their pocket money. But Rohini said, that was not going to help. She suggested to send all of them to rehab centre. After some more discussions they agreed with Rohini. And after 3 months all of them got to their normal life. But now there were only 3 months left for the final exam.

Rohini supported Rahul in his studies. She left her job for him. In those 3 months both studied the whole syllabus for exam. Rahul was a genius though. He was not able to perform as before 5 months. But he wanted to be the first in school. He shared it with his mom. She helped him in studies as well as prepared him to give good performance. finally the exams got over. And Rahul got relaxed a bit. Rohini noticed a positive change in Rahul.

After 2 months the results were out. Rahul was unable to believe it. He was first not only from his school but also from state. That was the happiest day of his life. He went home and hugged his mom. He thanked her for her cooperation. His mom couldn't stop her tears. And Rahul recognised his mom was always right.
