Innocent Kids?

by Kazue Tsubasa
A little girl of age 6 was squatting down and looking at something on the floor with eyes full of amusement and excitement. She was smiling from ear to ear and giggling from time to time.

Mrs. Parker walked near and leaned down a little to talk to her, “Lily, Auntie Mary is here with Jean to see you, why don’t you say hi?”

She looked at her mother and nodded. Lily stood up and grinned at the both of them before returning to what she was doing before.

The elder women were off for some tea at the small table not far from the garden after leaving Jean with Lily to play. Jean made his way closer to her and squat down as well.

“What are you doing, Lily?” He said. “Can I join?”

“Sure, Jean!” She answered. “Look at this, look at this! Isn’t it pretty?”

He looked at saw a beautiful and tiny fey in her palm. She has translucent and shimmering wings. But her face was a little in pain. The poor fey was struggling to free herself from Lily’s grip but failed due to the difference in size and of course, strength.

“What is this?” Jean asked.

“I don’t know. A fey, perhaps?” She said. “I want to try plucking her wings out, want to help?”

“Sure, why not?” He answered.

“Then help me grab her and I’ll pluck it out, okay?” She told him and he nodded. “Thanks!” She flashed her brightest smile to him.

They both carried on their little ‘mission’ and were giggling happily as if they have done something totally normal for kids like them.

“Aww, look at her smile, aren’t kids the cutest thing ever?” Mrs. Parker squealed.

“Yes! Makes me wonder what innocent games they are playing!” Mary answered and took a sip of her tea. They soon carried on talking about another topic; not knowing what they have just said was completely off the mark.

They always say, kids are the symbol of purity and innocent.

But, I guess…Not anymore.

A heartbreaking, negative story. Cruel, but truly shows how the world is now. Selfish, despicable human beings.

Your identity is stolen. Your familes, friends and even your lover doesn't know you and instead accepts the fake 'you' as you. In a world where your existence is nothing and you're no longer you, that is my fear

Some things change, and it will never be the same. Even if you wished for it to return, it will never return. A sad story of you and him. Angsty and a little poetic. Short poem included aside from the short story.

I'm a nameless little flower, fragile and weak. I'm desperate to live and so, I will cling to anything, even if it's pain. I will abandon everything just to live. I don't want to die and be forgotten, but deep down I knew I was wiliting. Poem+Story
