IF I WERE A SAINT IN HEAVEN

IF I WERE A SAINT IN HEAVEN

If I were a Saint in Heaven
I would have assembled host of saints
To prepare a welcome Hymn
For to receive the saint martyred.
Heralding him before the Omnipotent

I would have been there on that day.
The glorious day which the saint was martyred,
On the day when the stone pelted his glorious face.
Shining with the glory of Heaven bestowed.
I would have been there on that day.

Beside the Lord, I would have stood,
Watching and waiting for the saints on trial.
Preparing a victor’s song, I would have.
With a thousand saints I would have,
Heralded the Saint’s entry into Heaven.

There was neither gloom nor thunder
In Heaven, heralding the saint’s entry.
With trumpets and flowery splendour,
Heralded the saint’s entry.
In heavenly glory and glamour.

I would have been there besides the Lord.
Waiting and strengthening the faith of
The martyred Stephen as he looked upon the Lord
Robed in celestial glory never known to man.
The pain ceased from his mortal body on beholding the Lord.

Yet they pelted him with stone with brute savagery.
He was neither the first nor last to be martyred
But in him, we behold the Father’s throne;
In him, we beheld the victor’s home.
So strengthened he the faith of the saints.

Gloom and grim heralded the departure
From loved ones here on earth.
Glamour and splendour heralded the soul
Of the saint in Heaven’s gate bestowed.
Thus vanquished He, death and fear.

If I were a Saint in Heaven,
I would have assembled a host of saints.
To prepare a welcome Hymn,
For to receive the saint martyred.
Heralding him before the Omnipotent.
