Hearts Aflamed

A chill went through my nerves. Whether it was fear, trepidation or anticipation, I couldn't have said. I stared at Peter as if I was certain he had taken complete leave of the maturity I credited him.

"That's stupid! You can't fall in love with someone who isn't interested in you."

"You were once interested., " he said. He was a little shocked by what he said. He never planned on saying it that way.

" That was a long time ago, " I said, not liking the gleam in his eyes.

" It wasn't so long ago that you've forgotten the times we've shared together. "

There was a certain urgency in his his voice that caught my interest and, at the same time, kept me from probing deeper.

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I tilted my head up and kissed him. " Please don't hurt me again. I love you, " I whispered,.

" I love you too, " he said then he leaned down and brushed the softest kisses across my mouth. " You are everything I could ever want in a woman. "

My loving him was a feeling I tried hard to ignore but I could too easily remember the past because our hearts were aflamed in love.
