Asafo Kuo: Chapter 3

by safohen
Dufie slashed off the heads of two onini kakaamobi in one swing. One of them swung a blow to her temple, sending her crashing through a classroom door. Her attacker bared its fangs and lunged at her, but she raised her ekyem and smashed it against its head, crushing it.

She darted towards two others, sidestepping their blows and slashed them in half. The remaining five began to circle her warily but she stabbed the closest one in the chest with her akofena and spun towards the others, putting an arrow in each of their chests.

Outside the classroom, Fazia stabbed two of her foes with one machete each. She somersaulted over the head of a third, slashing off its head before landing in the middle of the remaining seven. She swung her akodze thrice, slashing all of them to pieces.

Besiwa was flung through the bolted cafeteria door. She grabbed her empty bow and stabbed the first onini kakaamobi that came after her with the pointed end of her akodze. Another lunged at her, but she spun around it, wrapped the bowstring around its neck and flung it into the kitchen stove before stabbing it with a gagging knife.

Two more reached for her but she slashed off their arms and heads with an afena. Out of the corner of her right eye, three of them darted towards her. She raised her shields to block the attack but she was too late.

One punched her in the face, the other kicked her belly and the third flung her into the glass windows of the cafeteria, smashing them. She staggered to her feet, drew out three hunting sekan from the folds of her cloth and flung each sekan at each one. Two onini kakaamobi approached her warily on both sides.

Besiwa tightened her grip on her machetes and calmed her mind. The moment they darted at her, she took aim and flung her machetes at their bellies.

Nyamekye tore a path through seven of the onini kakaamobi with seven swings of her ekumapraban. She bashed an eight one into the ground, using her akodze like a sledgehammer and slashed the ninth from head to toe. The tenth began to retreat but she sent her ekumapraban hurtling towards it, striking it down.

Awo spun away from the punches and kicks of her foes, her afonanta, a blur in their eyes as it slashed and hacked away at them. Only five remained and they edged backwards as she slowly advanced toward them. She suddenly darted towards them and leapt at them, her afonanta raised.

In five swings, five very dead onini kaamobi struck the ground. She spun around at the sound of footsteps behind her, her akodze raised and relaxed when she recognised her four friends. At 5:00 pm, all their enemies lay six foot beneath the ground as they dusted themselves and set off for the forest.

The onini kakaamobi nest was hard to find but once they did, it was a simple matter of setting it ablaze. When the last embers died off, the five very weary but victorious girls set off for their homes.
