Akyeaa: Chapter 4

by safohen
'Don't misunderstand me, Fosuaa. If there is any justice in this world, one day they will be punished for leaving their newborn in the wild. I just don't want any bitterness or rage because that would mean they still have a hold on me.'

'What about the village?' Fosuaa asked. 'From what I've gathered, the elders decided that you would make a perfect nkunimdifo) because you owed them your life. Meaning you would be easier to control. Loyal to the elders, who are basically all-powerful here, till the day you die.'

'Well, I don't always do everything they say. Maybe I'm just being biased but they saved me from death, raised me and let me be their nkunimdifo). The villagers are my real family, my real friends, my entire world. They're not perfect but at least they didn't leave me to die.'

Her mobile phone rang loudly. She answered it.

'Hello. Yes...but right now.....Of course I'll be there soon.'

'What is it, Akyeaa?'

'It's Panin (elder) Ntim. He wants to see both of us at the village park. Especially you. He said it's important. Something about the mythical sankofa bird and the balance between life and death.'
