Akyeaa: Chapter 17

by safohen
Akyeaa spoke with Dzifa, the leader of the camp as her followers nursed their bruises and intense headaches.

'So when did you get the drums, Dzifa?'

'Two days ago. We came here to take a break from the pressures of urban life. I thought it would help to introduce a little drum music to the camp. An old woman with a strange looking staff happened to be passing by. Asked us if we needed anything. She carved out the drum herself by the end of the day. Once it started playing, we couldn't stop ourselves from attacking each other.'

'Well, you don't have to worry about that anymore. Which direction did she take when she left?"

'East. By the way, how come you weren't affected?

'Good old fashioned willpower. Take care of yourselves.'

And so the nkunimdifo) set off for the east, stopping at a village that looked similar to Ankonamkrom. The wooden hand grew warm again, and she dug into her suit pocket, removing a machete that was said to wield the power of an entire kingdom. She hoped that it would at least subdue Bimm, if not destroy her completely.

She walked past a signboard that read 'Welcome to New Ankonamkrom' and realised that the village seemed empty. 'No, not empty,' she realised, as she sensed the villagers' fear. Without warning, an old woman darted out of one of the huts and dragged her in. 'It's not safe out there during the daytime.'

'What are you afraid of?"

The old woman said nothing. Akyeaa sighed, shrugged of her protests and stepped outside.

Suddenly the ground began to shake and a large rabbit like kakai shot out of the ground, claws raised and lunged at her. Akyeaa calmly stepped to her right, out of it's way and with one swing of her machete, took off it's head.

She turned round to the old woman's hut. 'Alright, it's dead. You can all come out'.

Suddenly , out of the corner of her right eye, she noticed something large leap at her. She strafed to her right, avoiding its claws and rose to her feet as a large tiger like kakai growled at her. It leapt at her again and again, but she moved out of its reach, just in time, struck it down with her elbow and was about to kill it when it looked up at her. Looked at her with human eyes. Eyes that seemed to be pleading for help.

Then they were tiger eyes again. And it shot off into the forest.
