Akyeaa: Chapter 13

by safohen
Akyeaa Amegashie, open your eyes!' a harsh voice roared.

Akyeaa opened her eyes with a start. She found herself lying on a grassy plain, lined with several trees. Above her, several Sankofa birds flew across the sky. Kneeling beside her was a tall, muscular old woman with a hard face, clothed in a white and blue garb.

'Where am I?' she asked.

'In the high ancestral plains'. the woman replied.

'So, I'm dead, then?'

The woman punched her belly and waves of pain coursed through her body, making her wince.

'No, you're dying. Otherwise you wouldn't have felt any pain.' the old woman said calmly. 'This is a near-death experience. Ordinarily, we would have let you die. We even have a place reserved for you, but...'

'But what?"

'But tommorow, the living realm might be engulfed in flames. 'So you'll have to go back.'

'What are you talking about?"

The old one calmly told her about the markings, the Sakraman dinn, and the mystic flame.

'The only problem is that the secrets the markings are supposed to reveal are a lie'. They were put there by one of the first priestesses to walk the earth. She who was supposed to ensure that the living emulated the virtues of the ancestors and did not repeat their mistakes. Her name is Bimm. '

'Bimm believed that the ancestors should have a direct hand in the affairs of the living. She gathered an army and I gathered mine. She lost and I personally banished her to the living world. Unfortunately, she's being causing trouble there ever since. She created the Sakraman sum, a twisted version of the sakraman dinn. She also made Ekuaba, the snake-like kakai and would have turned your priestess into a kakai if you hadn't intervened'

'What does she want?'

'To cause humanity to tear itself apart, leaving only a few survivors. She believes that this will cause them to live good lives and end sin, crime and all the other vices that plague humanity. So in creating those markings, she wants Ekuaba to cause the world to burn.'
