2014: The Quest For Immortality.

by smithxav
Chapter 1:

Human Immortality Realized

It is the year 2045 and a group of billionaires, who decided to join forces in order for them to circumvent God's "ban" (as they saw it), on human immortality (in the Garden of Eden) has finally realized their vision.

The first brain transplant, of the then dying Olympic Gold Medalist, Stanislav Itskov has been a raving success. He has been alive for the past 24 hours, after his brain has successfully been transplanted into a robotic avatar, created by the multiple award-winning roboticist ,Dr Hiroshi Hiroshima. A project that has been more than 30 years in the making, has finally come to fruition and the dawn of a new age has begun...

"Jayson, can you believe that it has been 195 years since the first Robotar has been created by your great grandfather, Dr Hiroshima?" the young looking female Humanoid journalist (designed by Toshibaba) for the Global Nation News (GNN) asks, the still out of breath athlete. "Don't you find it interesting that you went on to become the winner of this year's Olympic Gold?" she continues to badger the 120 year-old, Robotar athlete with her questions. " Especially after he saved the life of the first Olympic Gold Medalist, Stanislav Itskov, almost 2 centuries ago?" Jayson now more relaxed just smiles and calmly replies: "It is by God's grace, is it not?", before turning to his 13 year old looking daughter (who recently celebrated her 93rd birthday) and softly whispering into her ear "Wish your mom were here, honey".

Caley looks up into her dad's grey/blue eyes and just smiles, knowing in her heart that her mom is in a better place. It has been her mom's dying wish, not to continue living as a reporter, like her father Jayson and she now does. It is now 80 years since they have been involved in a fatal car accident - that would have claimed her young life as well. Her mother was not revived as she will dictate, but Caley and her father are now part of a long line of Robotars. Her mother believed that life after death is destined for those who lived their lives according to the Word and Will of God. Her mom, has always been a believer and God fearing women, who instilled these values into young Caley from an early age. Her dad on the other hand, who comes from a long line of Robotar inventors (or co-creators as they are known) long held the believe that man has been given freedom of choice, so they should be able to choose, whether they want to live forever or not. He seemed to have changed his mind over the years as Caley found him, a number of times, digging through the only print version book allowed in their home - the Bible.

"Dr Hiroshima, you must be proud to see your great grandson win the Olympic Gold this year, are you not?" Sukiyaki the Humanoid journalist asks, now turning her attention to Dr Hiroshi Hiroshima, who doesn't look a day over 55. "Yes, we all are very proud of him", Dr Hiroshima replies with his broken English spoken with a very thick Japanese accent. He always believed in being true to himself and honoring his Japanese roots, hence he never took up the option to upgrade the American/English vocabulary into his brain using the .Barroca-lator. "We must go, sir, you are going to be late for your meeting", the gladiator-looking Robotar bodyguard of Dr Hiroshima interjects. It is now the year 2240 and hard to believe that criminals found ways in which to kill Robotars, mainly by decapitation. A cult-like group who is only known as, The Believers, are actively hunting down and killing Robotars, as they believe them to be an abomination. Caley herself has almost been a victim of such an attack when visiting our now fully inhabited Moon.

"You are right, Yule, ", Dr. Hiroshima replies, thinking to himself that he is not really in the mood for another 'warp-trip' to the planet Kepler 62.

The planet, (Kepler 62) is completely covered by a global ocean, which hides the dry land underneath. A breathtaking planet, much like earth except for the fact that their sky entirely comprises of one large ocean. One can literally see the marine-life swimming in the skies, when looking up from the one-continent planet's surface. Dr. Hiroshima usually feels "seasick" before reaching the planet, as they have to, literally, drive through the ocean to reach the surface of the planet. Their flight in a Rolls Royce Limousine is quite comfortable, considering that this planet is 1200 light-years away from earth. They have visited this particular planet more than 50 times since the earth has been 'discovered', and now forms part of a 17 earth-like-planet-coalition, within their respective habitable zones. After Kepler 62, as we named it back in the day (Oceanus - the real name given to it by it's inhabitants) was discovered the Oceanlings introduced us, the Earthlings (as we are no longer only humans on the planet) to the inhabitants of the 15 other planets, which together form the Intergalactic Confederation (I.C). It turns out that they knew about Earth for millennia, but was never allowed to make contact with us as the I.C Ruling states that the inhabitants of a newly discovered world, needed to make "Contact" first (which would mean that they are sufficiently advanced to be accepted into the I.C, should they wish to join). There are 10 other planets that we, now also know about and have visited, but that hasn't made Contact yet (so they do not know about the existence of the I.C or us).

"Thank you for joining us Dr. Hiroshima, we are still waiting for 2 more Venian participants in this meeting from the planet, that the Earthlings refer to as Gliese 832c (real-name, Vena). They are just waiting for their planet's core temperatures to drop to an acceptable level, so that they can be beamed through to our meeting transcendence portal. "We trust that your trip has been an enjoyable one", the purple colored Oceanling, Dr. Delphinus Delphis informs with a friendly smile. "Yes, thank you", Dr. Hiroshima replies.

This annual meeting attended by the top minds of the 17 Intergalactic Confederation planets meets to mainly discuss the security, resource needs, technological advancements made and energy requirements of their respective home planets. Energy trading has been the biggest wealth generator and Earth is the 3rd largest producer of global renewable energy after Kepler 10c (Petros) and Kepler 440b (Oikos).

The fluorescent lights in the transcendence portal start to blink, the room goes quiet and the portal begins to shake as violently, as is usual for this group of creator/leaders. Everyone in the room is relaxed with their eyes now fixed on the portal expecting their 2 (red colored) Venian counterparts to appear, momentarily.

Suddenly, the lights in the entire building went out. There is a deafening sound coming from the portal, that causes all the delegates in the room to fall onto the floor with their hands, and in some instances, paws and wings covering their ears. A few minutes later the sound stopped and the lights went back on. After the more than 30 delegates and their bodyguards regained their posture (with the sound still ringing in their ears) they picked themselves up from the floor, looked up and saw....me.

Chapter 2:

Back from the Future.

"Stanislav Itskov....is that you?!!!", an amazed and now clearly bewildered, Dr Hiroshima managed to gasp at our new arrival, while picking himself up off the floor. "But...but...you were..., you are.... ?!!!" Dr Hiroshima, stumbles of his own words. "Dead?!!!", I finished his question sounding and looking very perturbed at the doctor. "Instead of sending me back to my past to quit smoking and to survive lung cancer, like you promised after you've turned me into this...this abomination. Instead you've sent me into a future filled with, shall i call them super-abominations, that you doctor will continue to create if you do not see the error in your ways now and stop immediately" Dr Hiroshima looked at me with that look that i remember so well and said: "Slow down Itskov, before you make yourself guilty of sounding like one of those...those... Believers" (To be continued...)
